About Yiewsley

Yiewsley is part of the West Drayton district of the London Borough of Hillingdon to the north of London Heathrow Airport and near Junction 4 of the M4 giving access to the M25. Yiewsley benefits from the West Drayton bus station and a mainline station to Paddingon and will be part of the Crossrail project due for completion in 2019 linking the station to Canary Wharf. The journey time to Canary Wharf will be just 37 minutes. Other London stations will include Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon and Liverpool Street. The Grand Union also canal passes through the town and Stockley Business Park with its Championship Golf course, set in 240 acres of rolling countryside, border Yiewsley to the east.
The town has number of large stores including Tesco, Morrisons, Wilkinsons, Iceland and Aldi, fast food outlets and restaurants and there are two public houses: The De Burgh Arms and The George & Dragon.

Historically, the place-name probably derives from the Anglo-Saxon Wifelesleah: "Wifel's woodland clearing". There is little recorded about Yiewsley until the late 18th century, when the Grand Junction Canal was cut. A branch of the canal known as Otter Dock was cut between Yiewsley and West Drayton in the years 1876-1879 in order to service Yiewsley's brickworks.
